Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered two and a half kilograms of snake venom in Birampur, Dinajpur. The venom was recovered from the upazila's Ghasuria border late on the night of Thursday, 9 May.
According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off that snake venom was being smuggled to India across the border under cover of darkness, BGB members took position at Ucha Gobindapur field. When a man passed through the area, BGB members chased him. The snake venom was then recovered, abandoned, in two glass bottles. No one could be detained.
Lt Col Tanzilur Rahman Bhuiyan, commander of the Joypurhat Battalion, said BGB had recovered two and a half kilograms of snake venom in the operation, and that BGB is always on alert at the border.
