Sixty-one illegal structures have been removed from Bhawal National Park in Gazipur, recovering about one acre of reserved forest land worth nearly Tk 3 crore. The eviction drive was carried out on Monday (1 September) under the supervision of the Forest Department and the Gazipur district administration.

A press release from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said the drive took place in the Baupara beat area of the Bhawal National Park range. The Dhaka divisional forest officer of the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division led the operation.

The release said a joint team of the army, BGB, RAB, police and the Forest Department took part in the drive with the help of the Gazipur district administration. About one acre of forest land in CS plots 254, 267 and 303 of Bahadurpur mouza was recovered, with an estimated market value of about Tk 3 crore.

A total of 61 structures of various sizes, including buildings and shops illegally built by 48 encroachers, were demolished. The authorities said such drives would continue in future to protect forest land and nature.
