At least 20 people from both sides were injured in a clash between members of two extended families over picking mangoes from a tree in Bhairab, Kishoreganj. Two of the injured, in critical condition, were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

The clash took place at noon on Tuesday, 5 May, in Badhunagar village of Srinagar union in the upazila.

According to local people and police, several teenagers from the neighbouring Forsha Bari went to pick mangoes from a tree belonging to Ayatullah Mia of Nawab Bari in Badhunagar. This led to an argument between elders of the two households. On Tuesday morning, members of both families clashed with local weapons including ramdas (machetes) and spears, leaving at least 20 people on both sides injured.

The injured were taken to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex. Two seriously injured men, Mizan Mia and Chan Mia, were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Bhairab police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman Akanda said several people were reported injured in the clash but no written complaint had been received so far. If one is filed, prompt legal action will be taken after investigation.
