Members of Joypurhat-20 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized 3 kg 601 g of snake venom worth Tk 23.5 crore that was being smuggled into India.

The information was given in a press release sent from the BGB camp on the afternoon of Wednesday, 28 August.

The release said the venom was recovered in a raid early on Wednesday in the Nama Gobindapur area of Birampur, Dinajpur.

Lt Col Nahid Newaz, commander of the Joypurhat-20 BGB battalion, said BGB received a tip-off that smugglers were moving snake venom through the Nama Gobindapur border area of Birampur upazila, Dinajpur district. When BGB raided the area, the smugglers sensed their presence and fled. Afterwards 3 kg 601 g of snake venom was recovered from the spot, lying abandoned. The estimated value of the recovered venom is Tk 23 crore 40 lakh 65 thousand.
