Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has distributed relief goods and provided free medical treatment to more than 500 needy people in Sunamganj affected by heavy rain and flash floods from the hills.

The relief and medical programme was organised by the Sunamganj Battalion (28 BGB) at Lalpur cluster village in Gourarang union of Sadar upazila on the afternoon of 22 July. BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui attended as chief guest and handed the relief goods to the affected people.

The information was given in a press release signed by Lieutenant Colonel AKM Zakaria Kadir, commander of 28 BGB in Sunamganj.

According to the release, more than 500 needy residents of Lalpur cluster village, hit by the recent heavy rain and hill-water flooding, received relief goods along with free medical care and essential medicines.

Speaking on the occasion, the BGB Director General said that alongside securing the country's borders, standing by vulnerable people during natural disasters, post-disaster crises and humanitarian emergencies is one of the key duties of Border Guard Bangladesh.

He said BGB has always played a leading role in protecting people's lives and property and in providing humanitarian help during any disaster or national crisis. All kinds of humanitarian support for the people's welfare, including relief distribution, rescue operations and medical care, will continue in future, he added.
