Member of Parliament Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud took an unusual step to clear waste left by a temporary Qurbani cattle market in Bauphal, Patuakhali. By going into the field and joining the cleanup with his own hands, he won praise from local people.

The cleaning drive took place at about 4:30pm on Thursday (28 May) at the historic Bauphal Public Field in the upazila. MP Masud worked alongside party leaders and activists to remove the waste scattered across the ground after the temporary cattle market held for Eid-ul-Adha.

He said Bauphal Public Field is one of the most important open spaces for people in the municipal town, and keeping the ground used for walking, exercise and recreation clean is everyone's responsibility. Such initiatives would continue to raise awareness about protecting the environment, he said.

Present at the drive were Maulana Selimur Rahman, amir of the Bauphal municipal Jamaat; Advocate Mujahidul Islam, former central dawah secretary of Chhatra Shibir; Mahfuz Ahmed Khan, former president of the Patuakhali district Chhatra Shibir; Russell Mahmud, president of the Nazirpur union Jamaat; and other local leaders and activists.
