Three people were detained while trying to steal fruit from the germplasm centre of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU).

They were detained at 5pm on Monday (1 July). All three are locals from the Dayaler Mor area next to the university.

Professor Dr Md Shafiqul Islam, director of BAU's security council, confirmed the matter.

He said the three young men were caught by germplasm centre staff with about half a bag of fruit. As soon as this was known, they were brought to the security branch and the necessary action was taken. The accused were handed over to their families after giving a written undertaking.
