A patch of farmland sits on the roof, with fruit and vegetables covering 2,700 square feet. These neatly arranged green plants are the house's main ornament. For the past two years, former government official Hasanuzzaman Talukder has been farming here.

He has not been in rooftop farming long, but he understood its importance long ago. Spending all his spare time, he has gradually created this green landscape, which grows the household's daily needs.

Many fresh vegetables grow here, meeting almost all the needs of the two-member household, he says. The seasonal fruit collection is considerable too; it is mango season, and various mangoes hang on the trees. He has taken to farming wholeheartedly and now wants to rebuild the roof on modern, technology-based lines.

Out of social responsibility, landlords are adding greenery to their yards and roofs, and the COVID pandemic has sped up people's interest in farming. Hasanuzzaman Talukder's pure fruit and crops in Bashundhara Residential Area can inspire new rooftop farmers.
