Local people have rescued a sick vulture of a vanishing species from a paddy field in Barguna Sadar upazila. Villagers found the bird in a paddy field in the Pajrabhanga area of Sadar union at around 11am on Saturday, January 15.

Local people said they saw the sick vulture in a paddy field in Pajrabhanga in the morning, and it was rescued through the villagers' efforts.

Local resident Md Sohag Hafiz told Jago News that vultures are no longer seen near settlements. "The vulture was very weak when it was rescued and could not fly properly. So I called the national emergency service, 999, to hand it over to the proper authority so it could recover and be released."

Barguna Sadar upazila forest officer Matiur Rahman told Jago News that on hearing a sick vulture had been rescued near a settlement, he sent Forest Department staff to collect it. The weak vulture will be treated and released into the forest once it recovers, he said.
