River police have seized 40kg of deer meat in three sacks, along with two heads, during a raid on smugglers in Patharghata, Barguna. Md Saiful Islam, sub-inspector at the Charduani river police outpost in the upazila, confirmed this to Jago News at midday on Wednesday (1 October).

The meat and heads were recovered at about 3.30am on Tuesday night (30 September) from an area called Naptarkhal in ward 1 of Charduani union.

Police said the river police raided Charduani in Patharghata upazila on a tip-off and recovered 40kg of deer meat packed in three sacks, along with two heads, from Naptarkhal as it was being smuggled. The smugglers sensed the police's presence and fled, so no one could be arrested.

Sub-inspector (SI) Md Saiful Islam of the Charduani river police outpost told Jago News: "We recovered 40kg of deer meat on a tip-off. Later, on the orders of senior officials and in the presence of members of the local Forest Department, the seized meat was destroyed by pouring kerosene on it and burying it. The process of taking legal action over the incident is under way."
