The fire service has rescued two nearly dead kittens trapped between two buildings in Barguna. The kittens had been stuck for two days in a gap of about three inches between the first floor of Bayan Manzil and a neighbouring building in the College Road area of Barguna municipal town.

On the morning of Sunday, 9 April, Advocate Sunam Debnath, son of the member of parliament for Barguna-1, informed the fire service. Its team came and rescued both kittens alive after about an hour's effort.

Local people think the kittens fell from the roof of one of the buildings and got stuck.

According to local and fire service sources, the family of Fazlur Rahman Mostafa, owner of Bayan Manzil, heard kittens crying from inside the wall of a first-floor room. At first they did not take much notice. When the crying continued after a day, they were sure the kittens were trapped and told a Barguna organisation called Pet Lovers. Fire service members then came and cut through the wall of the room to rescue the kittens.

Sagar Karmakar, who was at the scene, told Jago News: "This is a humane act. Everyone who took part and everyone who helped deserves praise."

Advocate Sunam Debnath told Jago News: "I saw a Facebook post in the morning and came to the scene. There was only about three inches of space between the two buildings. There was no way ordinary people could get the kittens out. So I informed the fire service and they came and rescued them."

Ruhul Amin, team leader of the fire service rescue operation, told Jago News that the wall of the room had been cut with a drill machine and both kittens rescued alive. Because the owner did not object to the wall being cut, the rescue was much easier and quicker, he said.
