A woman named Nur Ayesha, aged about 65, has been killed in an attack by a wild elephant in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram. She was the wife of Md Ferdous Ali, a resident of Jangal Jaldi in Banshkhali municipality.

The incident happened at around 8:45am on Friday (16 April) in the hilly area of Jangal Jaldi.

Locals said Nur Ayesha was attacked by the elephant on her way to a lemon orchard in the hills next to her home. She was taken injured to the Banshkhali Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.

Banshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saiduzzaman Chowdhury confirmed the incident to Jagonews.

He said an elderly woman had been killed by an elephant in the municipality area that morning. The upazila administration has given her family Tk 20,000 in assistance on humanitarian grounds, and the family will receive further help if they apply to the Forest Department.
