The southwest monsoon may begin withdrawing from Bangladesh in five days, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said in its forecast on Saturday, 3 October. Rain may rise slightly during the withdrawal.
According to the Met Office, an extension of the monsoon axis runs across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and southern Bangladesh to Assam. The monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over the north Bay of Bengal.
Until Sunday evening (4 October), light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur at one or two places in Rangpur, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, while the weather may stay mainly dry elsewhere under a partly cloudy sky. On the following days such rain may also reach a few places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged until Sunday and then fall slightly across the country. For the 24 hours from Tuesday evening, day temperatures may fall slightly.
In its extended five-day outlook, the Met Office said the monsoon may withdraw from Bangladesh during this period. Until then the weather is expected to stay mainly dry over most of the country, with a chance of thundershowers at one or two places in several divisions.
