Rain is likely to come and go in several divisions in the first 10 days of October, but the following 10 days may be comparatively clear, and the southwest monsoon may withdraw from the country completely by 14 October. Bangla Tribune reported this on Wednesday from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department's long-range forecast.
From 1 to 10 October, skies may be partly cloudy during the day over most of the country, and overcast for the first two days over much of Chattogram division. Short spells of rain are more likely in Chattogram, Barishal, Dhaka, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions, with less elsewhere, mostly between noon and midnight.
The first 10 days may average five to seven hours of sunshine a day. A mild heatwave is possible in parts of Rajshahi and Sylhet, and dry spells may feel intensely humid across the country. Fog may form at dawn over river basins in the centre and north, and people in rain-prone areas are advised to beware of severe lightning.
From 11 to 20 October the weather may be fairly good and clear. Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet and Chattogram may see more cloud but little rain; any light rain will mostly be confined to the Chattogram region. Once the monsoon withdraws there is no further chance of prolonged rain, though rain may become a little more likely in the south on 19 and 20 October. These days may average six to nine hours of sunshine.
There is a slight chance of a low forming over the Bay of Bengal between 15 and 20 October, which could make the deep sea somewhat rough after 17 October, with a risk of moderate to severe lightning if it rains.
