The Forest Department has rescued and released a brown fish owl, described in the report as a species that has become extinct, in Bandarban. The owl was released at 11am on Saturday (12 March) in the Moynatoli reserve area of Bandarban Sadar upazila.

On Friday, Adar Babu Tanchangya, caretaker of a garden, found the owl lying sick beside Nazrul Islam's farm at Reicha and rescued it. The garden's owner, Md Nazrul Islam (Titu), then went to the spot and informed the Forest Department, which took the owl.

Bandarban divisional forest officer Haque Mahbub Morshed confirmed it, saying a brown fish owl of an extinct species had been rescued from Nazrul Islam's garden at Reicha and released in a protected area of the Bandarban forest division.
