The Bangladesh Air Force Women's Welfare Association (BAFWA) has launched relief distribution for flood victims and a tree-planting programme.
BAFWA central president Tahmida Hannan inaugurated the relief programme at the old airport in Tejgaon on the morning of 28 June, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said.
The BAFWA president handed over various food items, medicines and water purification tablets to the BAFWA team bound for Sylhet. The relief work will continue alongside the Air Force's own relief operations.
Relief and rehabilitation
Relief will be distributed in the Sylhet region as well as Gaibandha, Sirajganj and other flood-hit areas of the country. BAFWA will also provide grants and arrange jobs for post-flood rehabilitation.
The BAFWA president pledged to stand by helpless flood victims. She announced a programme to distribute corrugated iron sheets to help the homeless rebuild their houses, and a programme to distribute livestock to create jobs.
Tree-planting programme
In line with the government's national tree-planting programme, BAFWA has again taken up tree planting this year, as it does every year.
Under the theme "Brikkha prane prakriti-protibesh, agami projonmer teksoi Bangladesh" (nature and environment in the life of trees, a sustainable Bangladesh for the next generation), BAFWA has planned to carry out its Tree Plantation Programme 2022 centrally and regionally to protect the balance of the environment.
On 28 June, BAFWA president Tahmida Hannan inaugurated the programme by planting a fruit sapling on the central BAFWA office premises. Under the same programme, trees are also being planted by the regional and sub-regional branches at all Air Force bases and units.
