This should be called the peak of rooftop farming. For agriculture-related institutions, such a venture is essential: a building's roof can become a unique field of fruit and crops and a wonderful green space. For government institutions, it can at least be used for research and testing.

The programme has seen a rich rooftop farm on the BADC headquarters before, also a unique field for experiments. Such initiatives can contribute greatly to agricultural prosperity.

Here, the guava and lemon garden has flourished. The variety of fruit on the small roof and the tags attached to sticks by each tree show it is a research plot. Just below, amid the Gabtoli neighbourhood and constant traffic noise, fruit and crop experiments are under way.

The work is led by Arif Khan, an additional general manager of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), known as a dedicated researcher. His research is on applying liquid fertiliser to crops.
