Heavy rain on 19, 20 and 21 August and water flowing down from Tripura in India caused sudden, severe flooding in Feni, Noakhali and Cumilla. The worst-hit areas were Fulgazi, Parshuram and Chhagalnaiya upazilas of Feni. The flood gradually spread to eleven districts.

Homes, roads and cropland went under. Hundreds of thousands of people remained stranded by water, many areas lost power entirely and mobile networks went down. Residents said the flood situation had not been this severe since 1988.

According to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, 545 unions and municipalities in 73 upazilas of 11 districts were flooded and affected. At last report, 31 people had died and two were missing.

Relief distribution continued from government, private and all other quarters. Coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, students, the public, the army, navy, fire service and civil defence, medical teams and other volunteers stood by affected people. The report examines losses in agriculture, livestock and fisheries and plans for recovery.
