Two people, including a woman, have been killed in separate elephant attacks on the same night in Bairag union of Anwara upazila, Chattogram.

The two incidents happened on Monday night (23 September) at Khoshal Talukdar's house in the Guapanchak Ashrayan project and in East Bairag village in Bairag union.

The dead are Md Dulal, 60, son of Mujibul Haque of ward 4, North Guapanchak, in Bairag union, and Rehana Begum, 38, wife of Md Akter of ward 8 in Bairag union.

Confirming the deaths, Anwara police station officer-in-charge (OC) Monir Hossain said police and the forest department went to the scene on being informed. The two bodies have been handed over to their families.

According to local sources, Dulal died when a herd of elephants attacked the Guapanchak Ashrayan project at night. Separately, Rehana Begum was trampled to death by an elephant at around 1am when she left her home to go to the toilet in ward 8 of Bairag union.
