A nutritionist lists ten health benefits of amra, the vitamin C-rich hog plum now widely available in markets.

It is amra season, and the fruit is now easy to find in markets. Rich in vitamin C, it has a sweet-sour taste that young and old alike enjoy. According to experts, the fruit has many health benefits.

It contains protein, calcium, iron and vitamins, and in other qualities amra is in no way inferior to the apple. Because amra is rich in antioxidants, it also helps control problems such as constipation and indigestion.

Rubaiya Riti, a nutritionist at Farazi Hospital, has explained the benefits of eating amra. Here is what eating it at this time of year can do for the body:

  • Amra contains antioxidants, which boost immunity.

  • It lowers the risk of high blood pressure.
