A schoolboy named Sayem Ali (11) has died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Alamdanga, Chuadanga. The incident took place at 9am on Tuesday (27 April) in Baroghoria village of Alamdanga.

Sayem Ali was the son of Saban Ali, a farmer from the same village, and a class five pupil at Ailhas Lakshmipur Government Primary School.

Locals said Sayem and other village children were playing in the morning at a pond beside his home, where birds nest in small holes. Sayem and the others began catching birds from the holes. When he put his hand into one of them, a venomous snake bit him. He was taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Dr Jannatul Ferdous, the doctor on duty in the emergency department of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said Sayem had died before being brought to hospital. His family has taken the body home.
