Under the Tree Plantation Programme 2026, Bangladesh Air Force helicopters will scatter seeds from the air by dropping seed balls (balls of soil packed with seeds) in different parts of the country.

The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) gave the information in a press release.

ISPR said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the nationwide "250 million trees in five years" drive on 13 June. As part of this initiative to increase the country's tree resources and protect the environmental balance, the Air Force is holding its Tree Plantation Programme 2026.

To mark the occasion, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling at Air Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday, 16 June. Under the programme, the Air Force will plant fruit, timber and medicinal tree saplings.

Under the direction of the Air Chief, the Air Force will drop seed balls from helicopters at various places in the coastal region and the remote areas of the Chattogram Hill Tracts to support afforestation. ISPR said seed balls have been dropped by Air Force helicopters in remote coastal areas before.

Principal staff officers at Air Headquarters took part in the opening by planting saplings, and directors and senior officers of Air Headquarters were also present.

The press release said tree planting has also been arranged at the Air Force's bases and units and at all schools and colleges run by the Air Force.
