The 31st BCS Cadre Association (All Cadres) held a tree-planting programme to mark World Environment Day. The programme was inaugurated at noon on Saturday (June 5) by planting 45 saplings of various fruit, timber and medicinal trees at the National Betar Bhaban in Agargaon.

The association launched the programme with a target of planting saplings of various fruit, timber and medicinal trees across the country throughout the monsoon.

Inspired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's call in Mujib Year to plant one crore saplings, stressing environmental balance and greening, the association announced that it would plant at least 3,100 saplings of various species over the next three months in villages near Dhaka and in different places across the country.

Association president Abdullah Al Hadi said: "In Mujib Year and the golden jubilee of independence, following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directive to build a liveable world, the 31st BCS Cadre Association (All Cadres) has begun this noble initiative of tree planting. Our work will continue throughout the monsoon. We will plant at least 3,100 saplings of different species across the country."

He also called on all members of the various cadres of the 31st BCS across the country to carry on the tree planting in full swing.

General secretary Mrittunjoy Dey Sajal said at the event: "Alongside various social responsibilities, the 31st BCS Cadre Association plants trees every year to protect the environment from destruction, and this will continue in the days ahead."

At the inauguration, besides the association's president and general secretary, each of the following planted a sapling: Mahfajul Islam, Md Abu Naser, Sheikh Russel, Md Dulal Hossain, Md Nazmul Hasan and Iftekhar Hossain of the information cadre; Hasanuzzaman of the administration cadre; Sabuj Howlader of the family planning cadre; Muhit Kabir Serniabat and Muhit Chowdhury of the police cadre; MA Basar of the education cadre; Hasan Abdullah Touhid of the foreign affairs cadre; Kabir Jewel and Shuvo Das of the agriculture cadre; Md Nazmul Islam and Mehedi Masud Faisal of the taxation cadre; Rahman Shuvro of the health cadre; and Md Harunur Rashid of the PWD cadre.

Also present were Bangladesh Betar Additional Director (Administration and Finance) Md Al-Amin Khan and Director of Bangladesh Betar's news division Muhammad Shariful Kader, among others.
