Here is a method for keeping a cattle farm warm and free of mosquitoes in winter.
Materials
- 10 kg cow dung
- 500 g neem leaf powder
- 1 kg used tea leaves thrown out by shops
- 1 kg eucalyptus leaf powder
- 2.5 kg sawdust
Method
- Mix all the ingredients in suitable proportions to make a paste.
- Shape it into small cakes (ghute) and dry them in the sun.
- Arrange the dried dung cakes in rows in an earthen pot.
- Light a fire in the pot with straw so that the cakes catch fire.
- Once the cakes are alight, sprinkle the top ones lightly with water.
- Wet them so that they dry slowly through the night, smouldering like a husk fire and giving off smoke.
- Use enough cakes each day to keep a low fire burning in the farm all night. This keeps the farm free of mosquitoes and warm as well.
Precautions
- Keep the cattle at a safe distance from the fire.
- Make sure the fire does not spread anywhere.
- If possible, check on it from time to time during the night.
- Burn the cakes in a metal container with a perforated lid.
