US egg farmers chase lasting demand in Singapore a month after shell eggs return

Less than a month after the first US shell eggs in more than 20 years reached Singapore, a delegation of ten producers met over 100 buyers, saw their eggs stocked in more than 50 FairPrice stores and launched three egg-based products, as US egg exports run 25% higher in the first half of 2026.

American egg farmers are trying to turn a newly reopened market into steady business. Less than a month after US shell eggs returned to Singapore for the first time in more than 20 years, ten producers from eight egg companies travelled to the city-state, meeting more than 100 importers, retailers, food manufacturers and foodservice buyers, the American Egg Board said.

The trip comes as international demand for US eggs rises. US egg exports increased 25% in the first half of 2026, according to the board, which is working with the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council to grow sales across Asia and elsewhere.

In Singapore the access is already showing on shelves. US shell eggs from several companies are stocked in more than 50 outlets of FairPrice, the country's largest retailer, and the Sheraton Towers Singapore now uses US eggs exclusively, including in its New York-style cheesecake. Three products made with US eggs were launched at retail during the visit: egg noodles from Hup Huat Noodles, moon cakes and cookies from Bake Mission, and kaya, the coconut-egg breakfast spread, from Fong Yit Kaya. Importers including N&N Eggs are increasing their orders.

"This is what winning back a market looks like," said Emily Metz, president and chief executive of the American Egg Board. "This market was closed for more than two decades. It's open because our farmers showed up and did the work." The delegation also met the Singapore Food Agency and Temasek Polytechnic's Food Nexus, and awards were presented to the leading US egg importers at a dinner hosted by the US embassy's deputy chief of mission, Graham Mayer, and regional agricultural counsellor Alicia Hernandez.

Singapore imports more than 90% of its food and eats roughly one egg per person per day, which makes it both a market in its own right and, in the board's view, a gateway to South-East Asia. The board and the export council see room to add liquid, dried and specialty egg products to shell-egg sales over time.

"These are the kinds of relationships that grow into long-term demand for American eggs abroad," said Ross Dean, the board's vice chair, who led the delegation. The American Egg Board is the producer-funded national marketing body of US egg farmers, based in Chicago.
