Environment, Forest and Climate Change State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam MP visited a newly created plantation in the reserved forest of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.

At about 1pm on Sunday (9 August), the state minister visited the 40-hectare plantation at Rangikhali forest in the Muchni beat of the Teknaf range, where he planted a chalta (elephant apple) sapling.

He was accompanied by Chattogram region Conservator of Forests Mihir Kumar Dey, Cox's Bazar South Forest Division divisional forest officer Md Abdullah Al Mamun, Teknaf and Ukhiya assistant conservator of forests Md Monirul Islam, Teknaf range officer Md Abdur Rashid, beat officers of various beats, police, forest guards and members of forest patrol teams.

Divisional forest officer (DFO) Abdullah Al Mamun of Cox's Bazar South Forest Division said 27.5 lakh saplings have been planted on 1,103 hectares of forest land following proper procedures. These long-term plantations include about 56 species of fruit, timber and medicinal trees.
