The coastal forest department has rescued two fishing cat cubs in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.

The cubs were rescued from a sawmill at Acharbunia in Ward 5 of Sabrang, Teknaf, at around 7am on Saturday, 3 February. They were later sent to the Bangabandhu Safari Park at Dulahazara, Chakaria.

Teknaf coastal range officer Bashir Ahmed said a worker named Waz Karim went to the sawmill at Acharbunia in Ward 5 of Sabrang union in the morning. He saw a large fishing cat with its two cubs beside a tree and tried to approach them. The mother fishing cat ran away, but he caught the two cubs. The cubs were then rescued and sent in the afternoon to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park at Dulahazara, Chakaria.

He added that the fishing cat may have wandered there with its cubs in search of food.
