A fishing cat cub has been rescued from Naitongpara, next to the hills in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar, and later released into the forest. The cub is one to one and a half years old.

It was rescued at about 11am on Monday (22 May) from the house of Mohammad Shah Emran in Naitongpara. Sarwar Alam, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Cox's Bazar South Forest Division, confirmed this.

Locals said children playing at Mohammad Shah Emran's house spotted the cub. People then caught it with a net and informed the Forest Department, whose staff rescued it and took it to their office.

The male cub stands about one and a half feet tall and is two and a half feet long.

DFO Sarwar Alam said the cub was released on Monday afternoon in the Sairon canal area next to Betbagan, under the Sadar range.
