A Burmese python has been rescued from a paddy field in Jhenaigati, Sherpur.

The python was released on Saturday night (17 May) deep in the forest of the Rangtia range on the upazila's border, said Md Shahjahan, beat officer of the Rangtia Sadar beat of the Forest Department's Rangtia range.

He said locals spotted the python in a paddy field at Moriyamnagar village in Jhenaigati upazila on Saturday afternoon and informed the Forest Department. Forest officials went to the spot and rescued it in good health. The python is a protected wild animal and is considered an important species for maintaining the balance of nature, so for its safety and to protect the natural environment it was released into a deep forest within the Rangtia range.
