Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, a large goat named 'Sanchay' has caught the eye at a cattle market in Shariatpur. With its long drooping ears and striking brown, white and black colouring, curious people crowd round every day to see it.

About two and a half years ago, Kamrul Hasan of Domsar in Shariatpur Sadar upazila bought a three-month-old Totapuri kid from Natore for Tk 20,000. He raised it with care over a long period to make it fit for sacrifice, and gave it the name 'Sanchay' (savings).

Ahead of Eid, the goat, said to weigh about one and a half maunds, has been brought to the Monohar Bazar cattle market in Shariatpur for sale, with an asking price of Tk 1.2 lakh.

Kamrul Hasan brought it to the market on the afternoon of 25 May. Buyers and visitors crowded round the large goat, and many wanted photos with it or a closer look.

A visitor named Maruf said, "I have never seen a goat like this. It jumps up on people. It is very attractive to look at. Since it was brought to the market, everyone has been coming to see it, and many are bargaining."

Owner Kamrul Hasan said, "I raised the goat with a lot of care and spared nothing on its food and upkeep. That is why I have asked Tk 1.2 lakh. But so far I have not found the buyer I hoped for. Everyone at the market praises it, but I am a little disappointed not to get the price I want. If it does not sell here, I will take it to Dhaka to sell."
