A farmer, Azizul Haque Paik (65), was bitten by a snake while cutting grass in his field in Bhedarganj, Shariatpur. He killed the snake with blows from his sickle, put it in a polythene bag and rushed to hospital with it for treatment. The doctor said the snake was a venomous Russell's viper.

The hospital's resident medical officer, Dr Abdur Razzak, confirmed the matter on Sunday (29 June) afternoon. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon in the Sakhipur Charbhaga area.

According to local and hospital sources, Azizul Haque Paik was farming in the field on Saturday afternoon when a Russell's viper bit him on the hand. He quickly cut the snake off his body with the sickle he had with him, put it in a polythene bag and rushed to Naria Upazila Health Complex for treatment. He is now out of danger.

Dr Abdur Razzak, resident medical officer (RMO) of Naria Upazila Health Complex, said a man came in on Saturday evening with a Russell's viper and said the snake had bitten him. He was then given treatment and is under observation.
