Eid-ul-Azha is not far away, and many people have already started buying cattle, buffalo and goats for the sacrifice. Once the animal is bought it needs proper care. How should a sacrificial animal be looked after before Eid? Here is what to know.

• Many animals are not used to walking, and walking them home adds to their distress. It is better to bring them in a pickup van, which is easier on them.
• Traders often do not give animals enough food, so they are already somewhat weak. Give them enough food and water.
• Do not keep cattle, goats or other sacrificial animals in a damp, dirty or unclean place.
• If possible, bathe the cattle, buffalo or goat soon after bringing it from the haat, and let it drink plenty of water.
• Buy enough bran, oil cake, tree leaves, grass and straw in advance. Animals are hungry at this time.
• Clean away the animal's dung, urine and leftover food every day, and make sure the surroundings are not polluted.
• Bathe the animal early in the morning before going to the Eid prayer, so that dirt on its body is washed off.
• When laying the animal down for slaughter, do not struggle with it too much. Lay it down skilfully and slaughter it quickly without delay.
• Do not slaughter in front of other animals. It causes panic and fear among the living animals and may cause them suffering.
