Imports of Indian rice have resumed, and rice prices have fallen a little as a result. Miniket rice is selling at Tk 58 a kg and Nazirshail at Tk 60 to 66 depending on quality. With imports on one side and the new paddy harvest starting on the other, rice traders say there is no fear of prices rising.

At Karwan Bazar, shops were stacked with sack after sack of rice, but there were comparatively few buyers.

Rice sellers say prices have not risen in the past month; rather, they have fallen by at least Tk 2 to 3 a kg.

Imported Indian rice is quite cheap in the market. Indian miniket is selling at Tk 56 a kg and Bangladeshi miniket at Tk 58. Nazirshail sells at Tk 60 to 66, slightly coarse "28" rice at Tk 48, polao rice at Tk 90 a kg and broken rice at Tk 35 to 40 a kg.
