The food ministry is running regular drives to prevent illegal hoarding of rice. As part of this, several dozen establishments across the country were fined on Monday, 29 January.

The information came from food ministry sources, which gave the following figures for the day:

• Magura: drives at 37 establishments; Tk 9,000 fined for not having a foodgrain licence.
• Joypurhat: drives at 43 establishments; Tk 10,000 fined for holding excess stocks.
• Dinajpur: drives at 62 establishments; Tk 4,000 fined because various establishments had no foodgrain licence.
• Netrokona: drives at 22 establishments; Tk 10,000 fined because various establishments had no price list or foodgrain licence.
