Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has increased people's capacity.

He made the remark on Sunday afternoon (the report gives the date as 26 January) at the closing ceremony of Livestock Service Week and the livestock exhibition at the old trade fair ground in Agargaon.

The minister said: "Now you will not find people who are starving, in rags, going to gruel kitchens, with their ribs showing, without a shirt, scrambling to beg on the streets. Under Sheikh Hasina's dynamic leadership a radical change is coming in people's food, clothing, housing, healthcare, education, everything."

He said that since coming to power the prime minister had not imposed any separate tax or raised taxes, and the economic structure was the same as before she took office. "The prime minister has shown where a troubled, battered country can be taken when a person has honesty, self-confidence, determination, patriotism and the charismatic talent to reach a goal," he said.

Addressing farmers, he said: "The boy who is looking at a beautiful lovebird today is thinking: this person survives by selling these, I will do one too. In other words, I am spreading my entrepreneurs from within this. We are inspiring them. It does not end with just looking."

Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Dr Md Emdadul Haque Talukder presided over the event. Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock ATM Mostafa Kamal gave the welcome speech.
