An awareness meeting on online safety and the secure use of social media, together with a tree-planting programme, was opened in Rangpur.

Projonmo Samaj-Sanskriti Kendra, a library-based social and cultural volunteer organisation, organised the event at 11am on 23 July at Annadanagar in the district.

The programme was opened at Annadanagar College. Monowarul Islam Masud, adviser to the organisation and assistant secretary of the Awami Jubo League central committee, opened it as chief guest.

The organisation's president, social worker Tapas Kumar Saha, gave the welcome speech. Publicity secretary Shaon Kumar Saha presented information on the organisation and its activities.

Moumita Hia and Mostafa Newaz Badhan, youth ambassadors of BRAC Youth Platform, gave training on online safety and the secure use of social media.

Md Hanif Uddin, acting principal of Annadanagar College, presided. The organisation's founder and director Mir Robi conducted the event.

Finally, saplings of sonalu, krishnachura, palash, sandalwood and other species were planted at Annadanagar College.
