Poultry egg prices in Rangpur have risen over the week, with Tk 2 more being charged for four eggs. The price of Pakistani chicken has risen while broiler chicken has fallen. Prices of rice, lentils, atta, flour and oil are unchanged.
Visits to various markets in Rangpur city on Tuesday (13 September) found four poultry eggs selling at Tk 43-44 at retail, against Tk 41-42 last week.
At wholesale shops in Rangpur City Bazar, four eggs were selling at Tk 41-42, against Tk 38-39 last week.
Helal Mia, an egg seller at Mulatol Amtola bazar, said four eggs cost Tk 38-39 at wholesale on Monday, and within a day he has to pay Tk 41-42. The egg market is again falling into the grip of a syndicate, he said.
Chicken and meat
Broiler chicken is selling at Tk 170-180 a kg at retail, against Tk 190-200 last week. Pakistani chicken has risen from Tk 290-300 to Tk 300-310, layers are unchanged at Tk 270-280, and native chicken is selling at Tk 380-400 a kg.
Milon, a chicken seller at Terminal bazar, said prices go up and down depending on supply.
Beef has come down to Tk 360-650 a kg and mutton is selling at Tk 800-900 a kg.
Oil and vegetables
A one-litre bottle of soybean oil is unchanged from last week at Tk 192, a two-litre bottle at Tk 384, and loose soybean oil is selling at Tk 170-190 a kg.
At retail, tomatoes are up Tk 10-20 a kg on last week at Tk 150-160. Carrots are unchanged at Tk 160-170, bitter gourd is Tk 50-60, cucumber has fallen to Tk 45-50, thin aubergine has risen from Tk 25-30 to Tk 30-35, round aubergine is unchanged at Tk 45-50, and okra has fallen by Tk 5-10 to Tk 35-40. Papaya is Tk 15-20, green chillies Tk 45-50, bottle gourd Tk 30-35 each, lemons Tk 6-8 for four and green bananas Tk 25-30.
Sugar, lentils, flour and rice
As last week, loose sugar is selling at Tk 90 and packet sugar at Tk 88, medium lentils at Tk 110-120, fine lentils at Tk 135-140, mung dal at Tk 140-150, chickpea dal at Tk 80, packet atta at Tk 53-55, loose atta at Tk 50-52 and flour (maida) at Tk 68-75.
Retail rice prices barely changed over the week. Swarna (fine) rice is unchanged at Tk 54-55 a kg and coarse rice at Tk 48-50, while BR28 is selling at Tk 60-65, Miniket at Tk 72-75 and Najirshail at Tk 85 a kg.
