A venomous Russell's viper bit a farmer, Md Helal Biswas (35), in Pangsha, Rajbari. The snake was then caught alive, put in a jar and brought to hospital with him.

The incident happened on Friday morning (28 November) on the Padma char at Shah Mirpur in Habaspur, in the upazila. Helal Biswas lives in Shah Mirpur village.

He was bitten on the leg by a snake while working in a paddy field on the Padma char. Other farmers nearby gathered, caught the snake, put it in a plastic jar and rushed him to Pangsha Upazila Health Complex, where it was identified as a venomous Russell's viper.

His cousin Badsha Biswas said: "When we got the news we quickly brought him to Pangsha hospital. He is now receiving treatment there, and doctors are checking on him regularly."

Pangsha Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Md Ebadat Hossain said: "Being able to identify the snake quickly made treatment easier for us. He is being treated and is now out of danger."
