The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is working to stop criminals of the underworld, said Wing Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury, director of the force's Legal and Media Wing.

He said this in reply to a question from journalists at a press conference at RAB's media centre in Karwan Bazar in the capital on the afternoon of Tuesday, 3 June.

Intekhab Chowdhury said RAB's intelligence activity and surveillance through its 15 battalions across the country are ongoing. "If any wrongdoing comes to our notice, legal action will be taken against it," he said.

He said a number of activities take place around Eid-ul-Azha, including cattle markets, sacrifice, Eid congregations and the sale of hides, and the elite force RAB is working to prevent any kind of wrongdoing. Buying and selling at sacrificial animal markets involves large amounts of money, raising the risk of fake notes being spread by dishonest gangs. There is close intelligence surveillance of gangs involved in making and supplying fake currency, and RAB is helping by installing machines in the control rooms set up at markets to detect counterfeit notes. He urged everyone to use this service.

He added that theft, robbery, mugging, fraud gangs, touts, and "molom party" and "ogyan party" gangs, who drug their victims, tend to become more active around cattle markets and shopping centres at this time. RAB has increased intelligence surveillance and patrols to prevent such incidents.

The officer said RAB will continue its surveillance to detect sick cattle, unhealthy animals and those fattened quickly with chemicals or injections. With the help of veterinarians, such animals are identified and RAB's magistrates are taking legal action against the sellers through mobile courts.

Wing Commander MZM Intekhab Chowdhury said RAB is on maximum alert to ensure everyone in the country can celebrate Eid-ul-Azha without disruption, to ensure overall security, and to deal with any situation that arises.
