Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, RAB is keeping special watch to make sure vehicles carrying sacrificial animals are not forced to go to any particular market, the force's director general, Md Ahsan Habib Palash, has said.

He gave the information at a press conference after inspecting the Gabtoli cattle market in the capital on 24 May.

Additional IGP Ahsan Habib said security had been tightened in the capital and across the country to keep law and order normal around Eid. Alongside other law enforcement agencies, RAB has set up checkposts in the capital and various parts of the country, and control rooms have been opened at the cattle markets.

He said RAB battalions were running stepped-up patrols in their areas to make sure livestock reach the markets safely, and checkposts were operating to ensure security in risky and important areas.

The RAB chief said that as crowds thin out in the capital and other cities around Eid, the risk of traders being robbed of the money from selling animals increases. To deal with this, the number of RAB security posts and patrols has been increased.

He said special surveillance was being kept through control rooms and watchtowers to reduce buyers' hardship at the markets, and people were being encouraged to avoid cash and pay cashless or by card.

He said the necessary equipment to prevent and detect fake notes was ready, and drives against fake-note makers were continuing.

The RAB director general said immediate legal action would be taken against those spreading rumours or misleading posts about Eid and the sacrifice on social media. RAB's regular patrols, intelligence surveillance and operations will continue to suppress any terrorist activity and other crimes and keep law and order normal, he said.
