The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is active in preventing disorder around sacrificial animal markets, said Lieutenant Colonel HM Sajjad Hossain, commanding officer of RAB-11.

He said this while visiting the cattle market at Balur Math in the No 2 Dhakeshwari area of Siddhirganj at 11:30am on Tuesday, 3 June.

Lt Col HM Sajjad Hossain said a number of small markets spring up around Eid-ul-Azha with few cattle. So when cattle traders travel by road or river, some miscreants try to take their cattle to their own markets against the traders' will, through terror-like activity, to boost numbers. "One such incident has happened in Narayanganj too and came to our notice. We have already started taking action against those miscreants," he said.

He added that cattle forcibly unloaded from a trawler have been returned to the right market, and RAB's work to bring everyone involved to justice is ongoing.

The commander urged traders facing any disorder around the markets to lodge a complaint immediately with the police station or RAB, which would help identify the miscreants. "In most cases we learn of these incidents through social media, yet no complaint is filed," he said.

Commander Sajjad Hossain also said RAB's duties around Eid-ul-Azha have been divided into three phases: before Eid, on Eid day and after Eid.
