A python has been rescued from West Rajapur village in Dhansagar union of Sharankhola, Bagerhat.

Forest guards rescued the python from a ditch beside the house of Awal Howlader in the village on the morning of Wednesday, 18 May. It was then released in the forest of the Dhansagar station area of the eastern Sundarbans.

Dhansagar station officer Abdus Sabur confirmed the matter. He said villagers saw the python in the morning and informed the Forest Department, which sent several forest guards to rescue the snake from the ditch. The python is 10 feet long and weighs about 20 kg.

It is thought that the python came into the village from the Sundarbans.

"The villagers showed awareness by not killing the python. Whenever a snake or any other wild animal enters a village like this, everyone should inform the Forest Department immediately," Abdus Sabur said.
