Eight more meat and poultry companies have adopted the US Department of Agriculture's voluntary Product of USA (POTUSA) label, Agriculture Secretary Brooke L. Rollins announced on 30 October. More than 30 companies have now committed to the label since USDA launched its nationwide campaign earlier this year.

The label is meant to let shoppers identify meat and poultry that is born, raised, harvested and processed in the United States. The department said the label is now available in all 50 states.

"From the pasture to the dinner table, American families deserve to know that their food is American through and through," Rollins said. She said every company that adopts the label is standing with ranchers, processors and rural communities.

USDA presents the label as part of a wider plan to strengthen the livestock industry by supporting independent ranchers, family farmers and domestic meat and poultry processors. It sits alongside the Strengthening Processing for U.S. Ranchers (SPUR) Program, a $500 million investment to help small and mid-sized beef processors keep and expand capacity, and the recently announced SPUR 2.0 Guaranteed Loan program for American meat and seafood.

The department said it continues to hear from interested processors and expects more companies to adopt the label in the coming months. The release did not name the eight companies in its text.

USDA says that by creating market opportunities for products that are American from pasture to plate, the label helps producers and processors compete and meet rising consumer demand for American-raised meat.
