Three cows and a goat belonging to a poor farmer have burned to death in a fire in Phulbari, Kurigram. The fire started from a mosquito coil in the cowshed of farmer Shamsul Haque in Ramram Sen village of Bhangamor union early on 24 August.

The family says the loss is worth about Tk 3 lakh.

As on every other day, Shamsul Haque had lit a coil in his cowshed to keep mosquitoes away. In the early hours of Sunday the coil caught fire, and within moments the flames spread through the whole shed, burning the animals to death.

Bhangamor union parishad chairman Mohammad Ali Sheikh confirmed the incident. He said Shamsul Haque is a poor farmer and that the necessary help would be arranged for him.
