While playing in the kitchen, a pet cat somehow switched on an electric induction cooker, and a fire broke out. Goods worth several lakh taka inside the flat were burnt. The incident happened recently in China's Sichuan province.

According to the South China Morning Post, the cat that set the house on fire while playing is called Jingoudiao, and its owner is Dandan.

On 4 April Dandan had gone out to play mahjong when property management staff suddenly phoned to tell her that her home was on fire.

The young woman rushed home and found that almost the whole ground floor had been burnt.

No one but the pet cat was at home at the time, so suspicion fell on it. Later investigation suggested that the cat may have accidentally stepped on the induction cooker, switching it on, after which the fire started.

The cat, however, was not harmed. Firefighters found it hiding inside a cabinet on the upper floor of the house. Although covered in ash and dust, it was unhurt.

The fire caused damage worth about 100,000 yuan (about Tk 15 lakh) to Dandan's home.

Dandan understood that her pet did not do it on purpose and that it was simply an accident, and she took it in her stride.

After the fire, though, she renamed her pet's social media account "Sichuan's naughtiest cat". She also went live on Douyin with the cat, calling it collecting "compensation" from the cat.
