A woman named Krishna Rani Anima (40) has died after being bitten by a snake in her kitchen in Patuakhali.

The incident took place at about 10:30am on Thursday, 4 September, in the kitchen of her home in the No 2 Badhghat area of Sadar upazila.

Krishna Rani was the wife of Swapan Kumar Shil of the area, who runs a local photocopy and computer business.

Swapan Kumar said she was cooking rice in the kitchen in the morning. He heard a scream and found her saying a snake had bitten her. A cloth was immediately tied above the wound and she was taken to hospital.

Rina Samaddar, a senior nurse at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, said relatives told staff she was bitten while cooking, though they did not see the snake. "We gave first aid and collected blood. A doctor then came and ordered antivenom, which we administered. Despite treatment, Krishna Rani could not be saved."
