A mobile court has fined a man named Ripon, 40, Tk 50,000 for cutting the topsoil of farmland in an area beside the Muhuri riverbank at Kalibazar in Parshuram, Feni.

The drive on the afternoon of Wednesday (19 November) was led by Parshuram Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Mosharaf Hossain. Ripon is the son of Hona Mia of the area.

According to the mobile court, Ripon Mia was found cutting topsoil from the farmland, which threatened to make the riverbank collapse. The administration acted on complaints from local people.

Presiding over the mobile court, the UNO fined Ripon Mia Tk 50,000 under sections 7(a) and 15(1) of the Sand Quarry and Soil Management Act, 2010.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shafayat Akhtar Noor and members of the law enforcement agencies were present.

Confirming the drive and the fine, the UNO said such operations would continue to protect farmland and rivers.
