Fruit of the golpata, the nipa palm of the Sundarbans, brought from the Khulna region is sold from a van in Dhaka's Jurain at Tk 10 each.
Golpata, the nipa palm, is a date-palm-like plant of the Sundarbans that also grows along salty rivers and canals nearby. Its leaves are mostly used for thatch, and people on the coast eat its fruit, which looks like the soft kernel of a palmyra palm. Now the fruit is turning up in Dhaka.
Badal Mia sells it from a van in Jurain, buying from people who bring it now and then from the Khulna region.
