Jubo League activists led by Jubo League leader Advocate Mashhudul Mannan Trisha have harvested ripe paddy on several plots belonging to struggling farmers in the haor area of Netrokona. The work was part of an ongoing programme of the Jubo League central committee.

Farmer Nurul Islam Khan of Shimuljani village in the district headquarters had been worried for days about his ripe paddy because of a labour shortage. He said a labourer costs Tk 1,000 a day, and with labourers scarce and no money in hand he could not harvest. On Thursday night he was talking about this at the local bazaar when a student phoned Jubo League leader Advocate Mashhudul Mannan Trisha and told him. From Friday morning about 20 activists came and cut the ripe paddy in one of his fields.

Those who took part included former Netrokona district Chhatra League vice-president Syed Ahmed Rosi, Aminul Islam, Pavel Ahmed, Sajjad Ahmed Siddiqui, Udichi office secretary Jhalak Sarkar, district Chhatra League joint secretary Hasib Hridom and organising secretary Shuvo Sarkar, along with Chhatra League and Jubo League workers.

Mashhudul Mannan Trisha said they learnt that Nurul Islam Khan could not harvest his ripe paddy because of the labour shortage. With the weather forecast warning of early floods and hail that could cause damage, the activists worked all day as volunteers to cut his paddy. "We are doing this humanitarian work as the central Jubo League has directed," he said.
