Sharatchandra Das, a farmer of Basila Kacharipara in Naldanga upazila of Natore, was basking in the sun at his home on a winter morning when a jackal suddenly attacked him.

It bit him on various parts of his body. Another farmer, Firoz (40), was also attacked when he went to rescue Sharatchandra. With the help of locals, the two were rescued and taken to Naldanga Upazila Health Complex.

The incident happened on the morning of Wednesday, 18 December. Because the upazila health complex lacked adequate treatment facilities, the two injured farmers were sent to Natore Modern Sadar Hospital.

Locals said jackals have become more of a menace in the area recently and people are being attacked. They have asked the administration to take action.

Kamal Bhuiyan, resident medical officer (RMO) of Natore Modern Sadar Hospital, said the injured were being treated.
